Tucson Landmark, La Placita Village to be torn down. Lets save it and start a revival program instead!

Update!

We were on the news!  Thank you all so much for your continuing support and wonderful words.  Keep sharing!

The La Placita Village downtown has been a part of Tucson’s history for about 40 years. It began as a controversial project to revive the Old Barrio area but has evolved into a beautiful little haven downtown. In recent years it has become more empty and decrepit due to the owner's lack of upkeep but if the city were to purchase it, it could be easily restored to its former glory.
One of the main problems I see with it being torn down and rebuilt by the city is that that 'rebuilding' is going to either never happen, start and then not finish for a decade, or get torn down and then not have the funding to be rebuilt as something better. However, I don't see any way it can continue to exist in its current state, the rent for businesses is too high, the buildings are in need of repainting and repair.
Rather than having this beautiful village torn down, we could revive it and turn it into a cultural center for downtown Tucson! How you ask? There are so many ways! The city could rent out the top floors as housing, the bottom ones as restaurants, markets, and stores. We could hold a farmers market there, or set up events like they do on 4th ave such as chalk art festivals, art shows, swap meets, little shows or concerts in the kiva, the possibilities are limitless!
Please help save The Village and continue the revival of downtown Tucson, not by tearing down our history, but by improving what is already there!
