Demand that The State of California Sign the Paris Climate Agreement!

Governor Brown,

California is now the 6th largest economy in the world and, as of 2014, consumes roughly 7% of America’s energy.

With the election of Donald Trump, an individual who does not believe in science and who is willing to throw all progressive steps towards tackling climate change out the window, we feel as though it is now upon us, the People of the State of California, to be the vanguard of climate change legislation.  

The progressive and forward-thinking steps we have taken as a state must be protected and serve as a model for other states, as well as the rest of the world.  We often hear the saying, “As California goes, so goes the nation.”

Governor Brown, now is the time to lead!

We urge you to work with scientists and the state legislature to craft ideal standards that ensure we avert the worst consequences of climate change. We must show the nation and the world that California’s commitment to averting climate change is good for our environment, our economy, and our future.

California must lead the nation to avert the worst case climate scenario.  
 
We must set the standard for how the United States should tackle this issue. The sheer size and power of California’s economy carries significant leverage that should be used for this noble purpose.
To this end, we demand a symbolic signature onto the Paris Climate Agreements on behalf of the people of California. We demand that California adhere to the standards set forth within the Agreement, and that we encourage other states to follow our lead.

Governor Brown, we get one shot at getting this right.  With Donald Trump in the White House, the hopes for our future may rest on California’s shoulders.
