ProHingham OPPOSES the proposed sale of the Old Ship Parish House property located at 107 Main Street, Hingham, MA 02043, to Global Property Developers Corporation of Bridgewater, MA by Old Ship Church for the anticipated development of condominiums and potential Section 40B housing.
We OPPOSE the anticipated development of the Old Ship Parish House property because:
(1) Developing this lot would irreparably damage the historic fabric of Hingham. The Bachelor’s Row historic district is one of the most historic districts in Hingham and is also on the National Register of Historic Places.
(2) A condominium development is wholly inappropriate for this historic location and acreage and is inconsistent with Town zoning and historic by-laws.
(3) Building a large density of condominiums on this small parcel is not consistent with local needs.
(4) There are concerns with further increased traffic congestion, pedestrian safety, and parking in Hingham Square.
(5) There are well documented concerns with further stressing currently strained Town resources, such as water, fire, police and schools.
