Newport Coast Speed Limit Proposal

The purpose of this petition is to decrease the speed limit on San Joaquin Hills Road and Newport Coast Drive, in order to address safety concerns for the citizens of Newport Coast, and in particular the children who attend Newport Coast Elementary School

The goal is to decrease the speed limit on San Joaquin Hills Road from 55 MPH to 35 MPH, starting at the Canyon Watch Park and continuing southeast to Newport Coast Drive. On this stretch of San Joaquin Hills Road, there are many neighborhoods, the Newport Coast Community Center, and the Newport Coast Shopping Center. The goal also includes decreasing the speed limit on Newport Coast Drive from 60 MPH to 35 MPH starting at San Joaquin Hills Road intersection, and continuing west to the intersection of Newport Coast Drive and Pelican Hill Road. The Newport Coast Shopping center and many neighborhoods are situated on this stretch of the road, and Newport Coast Elementary School is also located in the middle of this stretch on Newport Coast Drive. Many children and parents are present on these streets, especially during school hours. These are two main thoroughfares in Newport Coast and the speed limits are excessive.
