Urge the Philippine Government to protect the unique forests and rare wildlife of Palawan Island

Palawan is an island-province of the Philippines located near Borneo. This beautiful island paradise is home to many species of plants and animals found nowhere else in the world.

However, according to a report on Mongabay.com, Palawan is facing increasing development pressure from the palm oil industry and population growth.

Considered the Philippines' ‘last biodiversity frontier,’ Palawan features 45 percent of its original forest cover, which includes one of the island's tallest mountains, Cleopatra's Needle.

Many species that live in the forests of Cleopatra's Needle cannot be found anywhere else in the world and include the Palawan toadlet, Palawan tree shrew, Palawan pencil-tailed tree mouse and Palawan hornbill.

However, the forests of Palawan, including Cleopatra's Needle, are threatened by rapid urban development, deforestation, mining, and agriculture.

The forests of Palawan and the rare animals that live there are too precious to lose. Will you join me in urging the Philippine Government to protect the unique forests and rare wildlife of Palawan Island?
