Repeal NC Body Cam Law

On July 11, 2016 Gov. Pat McCrory signed into law House Bill 972, this law will require anyone wishing to obtain the body and dash cam videos of police officers to go through the court system to do so. With the recent murder of Keith Scott we see no video evidence that he was a danger to anyone before being shot multiple times by police and pronounced dead. Other evidence suggests that the gun at the scene may have been planted by officers. This sort of incident, the murder of unarmed innocent civilians has been taken at the word of police until recent technology has made the videos available to the nation. Only in these cases, when clear evidence exists to discount the stories of police, are they able to be charged and tried for their crimes. Limiting public access to these recordings detracts from the public's ability to press police chiefs and local governments to hold the officers accountable for their actions. Please repeal this law. It is paramount to a society that trusts the police for the police to be transparent about the reasons for their actions.
