Whereas Israeli President Isaac Herzog publicly opposed the 2023 judicial reform proposals of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that would have weakened the powers of the Israeli Supreme Court and gave the Israeli executive government and the Knesset almost unlimited powers,
and whereas he urged the Israeli people to protest these measures fearing that it would not only cripple Israeli democracy but lead it into civil war,
and whereas thousands of Israelis took his advice and protested through demonstrations, fasting, and general strikes to name a few,
and whereas this pressured Prime Minister Netanyahu to postpone ratifying these measures;
therefore, we the undersigned recommend to the Norwegian Nobel Peace Prize Commitee that President Isaac Herzog be awarded the 2024 Nobel Peace Prize for bravely standing up to Mr. Netanyahu and encouraging Israelis to do the same, thus saving the State of Israel from probable dictatorship and possible civil war.
