At Donald Trump's command, Republicans in Texas have proposed a new set of outrageous partisan gerrymanders that would give the GOP another five seats in the House in a desperate attempt to rig the system and preserve their Congressional majority.
Texas Democrats have been forced to flee the state in order to deny the GOP the quorum they need to pull off their power grab; civil arrest warrants have been issued and Governor Abbott has even threatened to remove them from their seats if they don't return. "I believe they have forfeited their seats in the state Legislature because they are not doing the job they were elected to do," said Abbott in a statement.
Tell Texas: Don't gerrymander Texas AGAIN!
Governors in Democratic states like New York and California have threatened to unleash their own redistricting efforts in response to Texas, kicking off a partisan gerrymandering war that only further undermines our democracy and divides our nation even further.
We need less extreme gerrymandering in this country, not less. It is imperative that the Texas legislature simply do the right thing and abandon its effort to add more seats.
