Clean up pollution from Chatham Barrel Yard

The Chatham Brothers Barrel yard was discovered in 1980’s and designated as a ‘State Superfund’ site due to extensive hazardous waste pollution. During the past 30 years, plumes of industrial waste contamination from the site have moved over a mile downstream and have polluted local irrigation wells, groundwater, and Felicita Creek in violation of water quality regulations. The contaminated groundwater plumes are under Felicita Park, existing homes, on areas contaminated by the plumes and other chemicals.

We need more aggressive action to clean up the pollution impacting Felicita Creek and local groundwater!

We, the undersigned local residents and users of Felicita Park, ask regulators, cities, and the County to:

1. Cleanup/remediate industrial waste plumes from the Chatham Barrel Yard so Felicita Creek is safe for use by children and wildlife.

2. Cleanup/remediate industrial waste plumes from the Chatham Barrel Yard so groundwater is safe to use by local residents. Test existing homes located over the plume for indoor air, soils, and safety of consuming food grown on-site.

3. Cleanup/remediate plumes, pesticides, and metals pollution on the Homeland/Oak Creek site so it is safe for wildlife and human health.

4. Take action to stop flooding and runoff causing erosion of Felicita Creek and threatening homes and water quality.
