the article that was put in the Hood County newspaper on Saturday April 16th 2016 is pretty self-explanatory on why I believe that judge Ralph Walton needs a petition to be removed from the position of the 355th Court as judge.in the paper the headlines says attorneys: bad plea deals clogging jail. inside: drug offenders could be moved out of jail quicker saving counting money but judge Ralph Walton says he's concerned about Justice not money. the Hood County newspaper faded inmates are refusing plea deals opting to take their chances with a jury so that they can stay in the air-conditioned Hood County Jail where family can more easily visit and the food is good. That is the opinion of several trial defense attorney he said that more inmates would be processed at the jail faster is state district judge Ralph Walton would approve more appealing plea deals it cost taxpayers just under $50 per day for every inmate at the Hood County Jail where there are a hundred and ninety two beds. doing their time close to home maybe even more appealing to inmates as summer approaches especially for those facing State Jail felonies since they get a day-for-day credit while in the county jail. According to Jason Clark Public Information officer for the Texas Department of Criminal Justiceonly 30 of the state's 109 prison and state jails have air conditioning in all offender housing. A few weeks ago the Hood County News reported that some inmates at the county jail had been waiting more than a year for trial. Since then several criminal defense attorneys not all of him still practice here spoke of the record with the Hood County news about what they feel or plea deals that are no deals at all including for taxpayers. Walton called their claims totally ludicrous and said that he approves plea deals in about 90% of criminal cases. The Hood County news paper rarely uses Anonymous sources but agreed to not name the attorneys because they fear their clients may suffer as a result of your speaking out. some of them are quoted in the story. Attorney one said that he has always gotten a fair trial in front of Judge Walton but said the judge things in movable on what constitutes an acceptable plea deal for various levels of crimes. There is zero incentive to take a plea deal at $0.31. The simple fact is that he won't approve anything less than what he has said regardless of what the facts of the case are. And those pills are generally very high up in the range of punishment. Attorney to stated if the system is broken and everybody knows it. How much of this is that people want to keep thds meant Prosecuting and jailing for these little insignificant I know that there is an inordinate amount of County funds meant Prosecuting and jailing for these little insignificant crime.some of those who have been in jail the longest are there on parole violation charges or drug charges involving one gram or less. Attorney three stated certainly it can be difficult at times when someone is facing a state jail felony with a 24 maximum sentence to get them to accept a plea deal of 20 months. They're thinking well for 4 months so I can just roll the dice and have a jury trial and extend my time here and air-conditioning and be close to my family. Attorneys for told the Hood County newspaper 90% of it goes back to Walton. It's why we have a giant backlog. He rejects plea Bargains that don't reach a certain level of punishwe're going to trial the lawyer said. Even though under the law Wilson has the right to reject plea Bargains attorney 3 has said that some people have encouraged him to run against Walton said Is 24 months is the max will of course we're going to trial the lawyer said. Even though under the law Wilson has the right to reject plea Bargains attorney 3 has said that some people have encouraged him to run against Walton said this in my opinion it is absolutely improper for a judge to refuse plea offers that have been worked out between a prosecutor and a defense attorney because that's not the case. Thats who knows the evidence.the 350 5th District Judge Ralph Walton makes no apologies for making people pay for committing crimes in Hood County. Walton responded to several several criminal defense attorneys who told the Hood County News the inmates with the process to the county jail faster saving taxpayer money if Walton would lighten up on plea bargain Bill's. Plea Bargains are an admission of guilt and carry punishment. But offering the sentence the lesser sentence than the maximum that could be imposed by juries they save counties money on jury trials. Judges have the authority to strike down plea Bargains agreed upon by prosecutors and defense attorneys if they so choose. Walton said that he goes by the types of punishment sent out by Hood County jury. The jury set the standard in Hood County he said. The people of the community they determine what is just and fair. They hold people accountable for bad behavior without a doubt.some defense attorneys say that defendants are refusing an appealing play bills opting to roll the dice with juries so that they can spend some of their sentence in relative Comfort at the air-conditioned Hood County Jail. Most prisons and state jobs have little or no air conditioning. Walton said that while it is appropriate for County Commissioners and the sheriff's to worry about jail cause it is not his responsibility to do so. I'm not worried frankly about the jail population Walton said. What I'm concerned about doing is what is just and right under the circumstances. It's not the dollars-and-cents. Members of the Commissioner's Court have been concerned for some time that they will soon be forced to build a large jail or add on to the current one.it was stated it's not really his job to grease the will to get them through the system quicker.it was also stated the judge said he has no plans to retire and won't be required to do so until he 75.it was also stated that it is not his job to go along with what the lawyers want. I believe that this is unfair ruling. so let's put a stop to the madness judge Walton.
