Morningside Heights Needs Re-Zoning NOW to stop Overdevelopment

Dear Chairperson Weisbrod:

WHEREAS: The onslaught of out of context luxury development is rapidly damaging the Morningside Heights community, and

WHEREAS: The diversity of the Morningside Heights community can only be maintained by each new development incorporating affordable housing into their plans, and 

WHEREAS: The neighborhoods immediately adjacent to Morningside Heights (north of 125th Street and south of 110th Streets) have been contextually rezoned to limit this type of development, and

WHEREAS: Community Board 9M has passed two resolutions requesting the rezoning of Morningside Heights that would preserve the existing neighborhood.

THEREFORE, we are hereby requesting that the NYC City Planning Commission immediately begin the Uniform Land Use Review Procedure to provide contextual zoning for Morningside Heights.
