RE: Grievances in respect of the immediate reinstatement of Sizokthola series by Moja Love TV
Channel, full protection of Xolani Khumalo and his crew, as well as an urgent implementation of
National Drug Master Plan in order to free South Africa of substance abuse
We are the citizenry of South Africa. We have long registered our concerns about the way substance
abuse and addiction is allowed to wreak havoc in our lives on daily basis. Instead of canning
Sizokthola TV series, it is our considered view that government must take its responsibilities with
utmost seriousness to amplify its efforts to complement and support the exceptional work started
by Xolani, his crew and Moja Love TV Channel.
The challenges we record below require urgent attention and immediate practical action.
 While it is widely acknowledged that the root cause of substance abuse and addiction can be
attributed to government's dismal failure to create a drug-free country and to protect its
citizens against the influx of drugs;
 Whereas, the scourge of both drugs and crime are like Siamese twins in South Africa, as they
are viciously intertwined and interdependent, their survival solely depends on their co-
existence complemented by the lack of adequate response from our government;
 Just like the high rate of crime in our country, every citizen is affected by the scourge of
drugs either directly or indirectly; thus affecting our existing social systems and rapidly
consuming our limited public funds;
 Whereas, currently drugs continue to wreak havoc to the families, communities,
organisations, institutions unabatedly; as a result the entire country is engulfed in series of
potentially explosive events on daily basis;
 Schools, play grounds, parks, recreational areas and places of entertainment have been
taken over by the drugs business, while communities are inadequately resourced to deal
with these challenges, thus making the situation more acute;
 Tackling community drugs problems require a holistic, integrated and partnership response
and approach. Communities must be adequately resourced in order to find lasting solutions
that work for them.
 Whereas, the government has made commitments to free South Africa of substance abuse,
citizens continue to remain hopeless and helpless, as they are confronted with
insurmountable odds due to loss of life, loss of property, violent crimes in their daily lives; Substance abuse and addiction have created dire 'consequences on our existing social
systems, effecting crime rates, hospitalizations, child abuse, and child neglect, and are
rapidly consuming our limited public funds';
We therefore demand
• immediate reinstatement of the Sizokthola TV series;
• full protection of Xolani Khumalo and his crew;
 immediate implementation of National Drug Master Plan in order to free our country of
substance abuse and addiction.
When considering the speed and confidence expressed by the government to tackle substance
abuse and addiction, we have no doubt the above demands can be met timeously and professionally
within 7 days
