Twitter users harassed Leslie Jones with inappropriate sexual and racist hate speech following the premiere of Ghostbusters. Though she is unfortunately "used to" such comments, that is no excuse for bullying. Jones observed that Facebook was quick to shut down abusive accounts, while Twitter took their time.
Twitter's terms of service clearly forbid hate speech, but they rarely enforce these rules. With so many celebrities and others using Twitter to communicate and promote themselves or their businesses, it is irresponsible to allow hate speech to run rampant.
Twitter needs to follow Facebook's example and shut down abusive accounts before they get a chance to hurt others. Please sign the petition to urge Twitter to enforce their anti-hate rules!
