Jimmy John's: Don't Force Employees to Sign Non-Competition Contracts!

  • por: Chris Wolverton
  • destinatário: Jimmy John Liautaud, CEO of Jimmy John's

Sandwich shop Jimmy John's forces all employees -- including low-wage sandwich makers and counter workers -- to sign a contract that forbids them from working for local competing shops for a period of two years following end of employment with Jimmy John's.

The agreement states, "during his or her employment with the Employer and for a period of two (2) years after…he or she will not have any direct or indirect interest in or perform services for…any business which derives more than ten percent (10%) of its revenue from selling submarine, hero-type, deli-style, pita and/or wrapped or rolled sandwiches and which is located with three (3) miles of…any such other Jimmy John’s Sandwich Shop."

Fast food employees often have limited employment options and transportation. The vast majority are only trying to make a living, and should not be coerced by a company much more powerful and rich than they are. The contract outlined above discriminates against low-wage workers and needs to be discontinued. Please sign the petition to urge Jimmy John's to stop forcing workers to sign their lives away!

We, the undersigned, are concerned with your policy to force all employees -- including low-wage sandwich makers and counter workers -- to sign a contract that forbids them from working for local competing shops for a period of two years following end of employment with Jimmy John's.

Fast food employees often have limited employment options and transportation. The vast majority are only trying to make a living, and should not be coerced by a company much more powerful and rich than they are. The contract outlined above discriminates against low-wage workers, and does not benefit the company in any real way. We respectfully urge you to stop forcing employees to sign agreements that aim to control their lives after employment with your company. Thank you for taking the time to read and consider our petition.
