In recent months, a pig farm in Minnesota was under scrutiny and being investigated for alleged animal abuse. Due to some suspicions, an investigator went undercover to work at the Christensen Farms to investigate how the animals were being treated. Video recorders were installed to witness what was really going on at the facility. It was discovered that “during the course of the investigation, what we discovered was that workers were hitting, kicking, stabbing downed sows with pens, workers dragging pigs by their snouts and ears; workers failing to properly euthanize piglets that were in critical condition,” as stated by the investigator. Minnesota does not have a so-called “ag-gag” law prohibiting the covert recording of video at farming facilities. It was these videos that brought the abuse to light and we want to oppose the passing of the proposed “Ag-Gag” Legislation that would keep animal abuse under cover. Minnesota Legislators – We are asking that you oppose a proposed “Ag-Gag” law that would stop the protection of animals like those at the pig farm. The animals need to be monitored and protected from possible ill-treatment behind closed doors, such as the animals in the farm industry. Don’t allow animal abuse by preventing videos and other means of monitoring what really goes on in farms and other facilities. Do not pass the Ag Gag legislation.
