Demand the government retains anti land-clearing laws to help save the animals of Australia

Pressure is mounting on the NSW government in Australia to support the retention of key elements of anti land-clearing laws, according to reports in the Sydney Morning Herald.

Conservationists claim that the Native Vegetation Act spares more than 100,000 native animals a year. World Wife Fund for Nature Australia (WWF) estimates land clearing for agriculture killed some 330,000 native animals a year on average between 1988 and 2005.

That number dropped by 116,000 after the act came into force in 2005.

Conservationists are concerned that an independent panel has called for the repeal of the native vegetation acts, hoping to replace them with new laws that could strip protections in favour of land clearing and development.

The native animals of NSW deserve protection. Will you join me in urging the NSW government to support the retention of key elements of anti land-clearing laws that helps ensure their survival?
