The War Horse Project is an equine-assisted psychotherapy program for Canadian Forces Members and First Responders who have been injured or sustained illnesses, PTSD and other traumas. This program uses the innate abilities of horses to teach skills required to rebuild, repair and enhance the personal life and relationships of Forces Members who have been adversely affected by trauma.
The War Horse Project enables Forces Members to first address their own mental health and well-being concerns by engaging in activities of self-discovery and self-regulation.
This program has provided lasting and measurable benefits not achieved with conventional therapies alone.Horses do not offer unconditional anything until a balanced relationship is built. Human behavior/response is tied to past and present, while the horse lives in the moment, therefore able to give honest, immediate feedback.
