Help ban the use of hazardous AZO dyes in Australia

More than 120,000 items of clothing and bedding have been recalled by major Australian retailers, after they were found to be tainted with a dye called AZO - which is a known carcinogen.

AZO dyes are a large class of synthetic dyes used for colouring a variety of consumer goods, including textiles. However, the dyes have been found to be a hazard when in direct and prolonged contact with skin.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission says chemical testing found high levels of the dye in the recalled clothing, which can break down into a carcinogenic substance that's absorbed into the skin.

The use of AZO dyes is banned in Europe and has restricted use in the USA but the Australian government has not legislated to ban the dyes, despite the possible health risks.

These carcinogenic chemicals and the associated cancer risks give grave cause for concern. Please sign the petition and demand that the Australian government protects its people and bans the use of AZO dyes.
