The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has been shamefully promoting foie gras – a product so vile it is illegal to produce in the UK – throughout a number of its outlets, including on BBC2's Great British Menu, as well as on a number of its webpages.

Deprived of everything that is natural and important to them, ducks and geese who are used in foie gras production suffer immense fear and pain. They are crammed into tiny pens or individual cages fouled with faeces and blood and often develop skeletal disorders and respiratory problems as a result of the force-feeding process. Pipes are shoved down their throats several times a day to force approximately 2 kilograms of grain, maize and fat into their stomachs. In human terms, that is the equivalent of roughly 20 kilograms of pasta per day. Their livers swell to many times their normal size, and the birds often experience difficulty breathing, walking and even drinking.

By promoting foie gras on its shows and webpages, the BBC is shamelessly promoting this "torture in a tin". Please contact Mark Thompson, the director general of the BBC, and ask him to immediately remove any recipes featuring foie gras from the BBC's webpages and to stop promoting foie gras on any BBC programmes.
