Red flag laws dictate that a court order by recommendation of a family member or friend can temporarily confiscate firearms that could pose a risk to a gun owner if they are experiencing a severe, possibly suicidal, depression, or has been convicted of a serious felony and appears to be dangerous. Two-thirds of all firearm deaths in the United States are suicides, averaging 59 deaths each day, and domestic violence involving a firearm is 12 times more likely to end in death. This can go a long way in protecting gun owners and others from harm.
