Ban Coal Export Terminals that Endanger Orcas & Other Marine Life

A new coal transport project in the Pacific Northwest will endanger wild orcas and other marine life. The project -- Gateway Pacific Terminal -- would facilitate coal exports from the Northwestern USA and process staggering quantities of dirty coal through Puget Sound in Washington State.
In addition to putting the endangered species in the region at risk, this project could potentially poison the entire fragile marine ecosystem for decades to come.
This plan would threaten the region with large quantities of toxic coal dust and potential fuel spills that will threaten endangered Orcas and their habitat. Tankers could also strike orcas, causing further loss of life. Such a plan should not be allowed in an area that is critical nursing and feeding habitat for orcas.
Sign this petition to urge the authorities to reject the proposal for the Gateway Pacific Terminal. The proposal is currently under review in Washington, so it is vital that we let our voices be heard to save endangered orcas and other marine life in the region.

This project would spread massive amounts of toxic coal dust and risk fuel spills that would threaten the endangered orcas and their habitat. Worse, tankers travelling to and from the terminal could also strike these graceful mammals -- even as they attempt to raise their young in the sound and search for food.
