We Must Ban Bump Stocks to Save Lives

Inaction on gun violence is one thing, but this is an especially sickening development.

Little more than one month after a lone gunman used "bump stock" devices to traumatize, injure, and kill unsuspecting Sunday-night concertgoers in Las Vegas, one manufacturer of the controversial devices has announced plans to resume selling these deadly devices to the general public.

More people were injured and died in Las Vegas because of bump stocks. And now other would-be killers have seen how bump stocks can maximize bloodshed.

We have to get these killing devices off the market before more blood is shed.

Lawmakers introduced legislation in the House of Representatives and the US Senate to limit access and/or ban the sale, manufacture, possession, or transport of bump stocks, but that legislation stalled in the weeks following the mass shooting in Las Vegas.

With more bump stocks again headed into our communities, it's vital that we re-spark the national discussion on banning bump stocks as quickly as we can. There is simply no legitimate need for an individual to be able to fire so many bullets, so quickly, and with so little accuracy.

That's why we are calling on the US Congress to immediately take up and pass bipartisan legislation by Republican Rep. Carlos Curbelo and Democratic Rep. Seth Moulton to ban the sale of bump stocks across the US.
