STOP THE FORCEFUL HEAD LIFTING COMPETITION FOR MANGALAMKUNNU KARNAN

An aged elephant named Mangalamkunnu Karnan is still being forced to participate in head lifting competitions in Kerala temple festivals, Churches, and Mosques. This Elephant is over 60 years old and his physical condition is not good, suffering abusing during the parade in festivals. The majority of captive elephants in Kerala are under the control of temples, private elephant owners, and those who take elephants on the lease. Private elephant owners elephants are more likely to participate in this competition.

Elephants participating in head lifting competitions are forced to keep their heads and trunks elevated for painfully long periods of time — sometimes even hours. This position is unnatural for an elephant and strains their entire body to maintain. To keep these gentle animals' heads raised, trainers use cruel bullhooks and other sharp tools like knives and sticks.

Mangalam Karnan is an elephant of private Elephant owner from Palakkad District Kerala. It's hard to see this elephant, more than 60 years old, still attending head lifting competitions in festivals. So, this elephant is a much-needed rest and therefore we have started a petition for this elephant.
