Urge Egypt to Allow Canadians to Leave

Two Canadians, Dr. Tarek Loubani and Professor John Greyson, continue to be held in Egypt, in spite of their recent release from prison. They were arrested on August 16, the day after arriving in Egypt with the intention of traveling immediately to Gaza, in the Occupied Palestinian Territories. Dr. Loubani was hoping to build a relationship between the university hospital in Gaza and the hospital that he works for in Canada. Professor Greyson, a filmmaker, was accompanying him to document the situation in Gaza. On arrival in Egypt the men had to stay in Cairo as the border with Gaza was shut.

Hundreds were arrested at random during violence in Cairo on August 16 -- Dr. Loubani and Professor Greyson were among them. Amnesty International is concerned that, as with the Egyptians arrested that day, Dr. Loubani and Professor Greyson have been accused of a broad array of offences without apparent consideration of their individual criminal responsibility.

Please send a message urging the Egyptian authorities to allow Tarek Loubani and John Greyson to leave the country.
Dear Ambassador,

I am writing to express my deep concern for Tarek Loubani and John Greyson who continue to be held in Egypt.

I call on the Egyptian authorities to:

- Respect the rights of Tarek Loubani and John Greyson, and allow them to leave the country unless they are charged with a legitimate crime, or an explicit court order is issued that restricts their freedom to travel.
