Tell Your Senators to Support Clean Transportation Options, Not Big Polluter Priorities!

In April, the House of Representatives passed an extension of the current transportation bill, kicking the can down the road for another three months. That extension has expired, and the House and Senate are now debating a compromise transportation bill. But the House is insisting on including Big Polluter poison pills that would automatically stop EPA standards for the safe disposal of toxic coal ash.

The Senate has already passed a bipartisan transportation bill that would begin to reduce our addiction to oil by increasing access to safe, convenient transportation choices like public transit, biking, and walking, while also improving our current system.

As the Senate and House draft a compromise bill, tell your Senators to support clean transportation options, not Big Polluter Priorities like toxic coal ash!
Subject: Support clean transportation options, not Big Polluter priorities

Dear Senators,

In March, the Senate overwhelmingly passed MAP-21, a bipartisan transportation bill that would begin to reduce our addiction to oil by increasing access to safe, convenient transportation choices like public transit, biking, and walking, while also improving our current system.

Unfortunately the House is insisting on tacking on poison pills at the behest of Big Polluters -- including preempting EPA standards for the safe disposal of toxic coal ash. Tacking on these controversial provisions does nothing to address our nation's transportation needs and caters only to the profits of Big Polluters, threatening the passage of any transportation legislation, all while millions of American jobs hang in the balance.

I urge you to oppose the inclusion of anti-environmental poison pills, such as the gutting of our environmental review process and the inadequate regulation of toxic coal ash, and to support a 21st century transportation bill that invests in clean transportation options and begins to reduce our dependence on oil.
