Remove Breed Discrimination from Pet Flying Policy

United Airlines recently updated their pet flying policy. While they omitted their use of the term "dangerous" in defining what dog breeds were not safe to fly in cargo, they still have a discriminatory breed restriction on the following breeds, including any cross mix of these breeds:
  • Pit Bull Terriers
  • American Staffordshire Terriers
  • Presa Canario
  • Perro de Presa Canario
  • Dogo Argentino
  • Cane Corso
  • Fila Brasileiro
  • Tosa (or Tosa Ken)
  • Ca de Bou

Please sign this petition if you think a dog's ability to fly on United Airlines should be based on temperament instead of breed or appearance. The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) oppose breed-specific policies.

We the undersigned, appreciate that dogs can fly cargo on United Airlines and have a safe flying experience. While your updated policy no longer classifies certain breeds as "dangerous", we are concerned about your breed restriction flying policy.

A dog's ability to fly on United Airlines should be based on temperament instead of breed or appearance. There are many monster myths about Pit Bulls and American Staffordshire Terriers. Your current breed restriction only increases the public's misconception about Pit Bulls.

The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) also oppose breed-specific policies.

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter. We sincerely hope you will re-consider your pet flying policy and remove your breed restriction.

Sincerely,
Lisa Spector
