Take Action Now To Protect Access To CBD Oil

For years, consumers have benefitted from access to affordable, safe, and effective CBD oil supplements, a natural and non-addictive pain treatment and an alternative to dangerous opioids. But now that the FDA has approved a $32,500 per year CBD oil drug, it's saying that CBD in supplements or food is illegal.

This threat to affordable CBD oil shows the broken nature of our system. An opioid epidemic is ravaging our country, with drug overdose deaths surpassing car accident fatalities. People are addicted to and dying from these FDA-approved drugs, yet the agency is poised to eliminate consumer access to CBD oil, a safer alternative, all so one drug company can charge tens of thousands of dollars for what currently costs a few dollars in food and supplements.

The only solution to protect access to affordable CBD oil is for the FDA to grant an exemption to permit CBD to continue to be sold in supplements. Of course, left on its own, the FDA could grant an exemption for CBD, but limit the maximum allowed CBD supplement dosage to a non-therapeutic level.

We must advocate for the FDA to allow CBD in supplements at a dosage up to 100mg, so consumers can get a therapeutic effect at an affordable price. Please send a message to Congress and the FDA, urging them to protect therapeutic levels of CBD in supplements.
Dear [Decisionmaker],

For years, consumers have benefitted from access to cheap, safe, and effective CBD oil supplements. But now the FDA says that CBD is a drug, not a supplement--a drug which will be sold for $32,500 a year. Legally the FDA could at any time remove all CBD supplements from the market. We need an exemption for CBD oil supplements at a dose of up to 100mg.

This threat to affordable CBD oil shows how broken this system is. An opioid epidemic is ravaging our country, with drug overdose deaths surpassing car accident fatalities. People are addicted to and dying from FDA-approved drugs, yet the agency is poised to eliminate consumer access to a non-addictive, cheap, safe, and effective alternative in CBD oil--all so one drug company can charge tens of thousands of dollars for what currently costs a few dollars.

The best way to protect CBD supplements is for FDA to provide an exemption for CBD oil--that is, despite the existence of a CBD drug, to allow the continued sale of CBD supplements. Recent House and Senate Appropriations Committee reports direct FDA to accomplish just that, but they do not go far enough: they leave it to the FDA to determine how much CBD can be sold in supplements. This is a mistake, as the FDA could allow an exemption for CBD, but not allow levels of CBD in supplements to reach therapeutic levels. This would be unacceptable.

Please fight for an exemption for CBD oil supplements at a dosage up to 100mg.

Sincerely,
