Please deny KVWPP and Desert Claim Wind Power Project
The Governor of the State of Washington has before her a decision whether to override local county government's careful consideration and denial of wind power projects that will greatly impact many neighboring residents. These projects are being proposed in the northwest end of the Kittitas Valley - the Kittitas Valley Wind Power project (KVWPP), and the Desert Claim project applied for by EnXco.
Horizon Wind Energy (a Portuguese owned company) is trying to have their wind power project approved by the non-elected Energy Facility Site Evaluation Council (EFSEC) by pre-empting a Kittitas County land use decision. In the local permitting process, Horizon walked out when minimal setbacks were requested to reduce the impact on the residents of the community.
This same company planned and built a very large wind power facility (the Wild Horse Wind Power Project owned by PSE) using the very same local land use permitting process. This is an issue of proper siting of wind power projects so they do not negatively impact the community on whom they are being imposed.
We are not suggesting that EVERY proposed wind power project should be built or that NO wind power projects should be built. The issue is siting and the protection of residents that will be forced to live next to these types of projects.
We are asking for signatures to request that the Governor deny the pre-emption of the County's carefully considered denial of the applications to build the KVWPP and Desert Claim wind power projects, these two specific sites.
The applications for the KVWPP and Desert Claim wind power projects have been careully and thoroughly considered by the Planning Commission and County Commissioners of Kittitas County, the location of their proposed siting. Both of the sites have been found to be not suitable for this kind of development.
Now the corporations are trying to get the State to override the County authority and approve their projects in spite of their devastating impact on the residents of Kittitas County and the fact that both projects face strong community opposition.
We need your help to let the Governor know that the corporations are lying when they tell her the county is in favor of their projects and that they will have no negative impact on us.
We also need to let the Governor know that the residents of the State of Washington are not in favor of her overriding carefully considered county and local government land use decisions. assinar petiçãoassinar petição
