Urge the Senate to Protect Show Horses from Torture

Majestic Tennessee Walking Horses have long been cherished, both for their natural and unique way of walking and their gentle dispositions. But unscrupulous trainers use chemicals, chains, heavily weighted horseshoes, sharp objects and even electric shocks to condition show horses to fling out their front legs extra high. This cruel practice is called "soring."

In July 2019, the U.S. House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed a bill to protect these treasured horses from this terrible abuse — but it needs to pass the Senate, too, to become law.

The Prevent All Soring Tactics (PAST) Act will improve protections for horses by amending the Horse Protection Act. The bill requires horse show organizers who employ inspectors to use only USDA-licensed inspectors, prohibits the use of painful soring devices, and increases the penalties for violations.

We need your help to get the Senate to pass this important legislation. Urge your U.S. senators to cosponsor and support the PAST Act (S. 1007)!
Dear Senator,

As your constituent and a supporter of equine welfare, I am writing to ask that you cosponsor/support the Prevent All Soring Tactics (PAST) Act (S. 1007). As you may know, the House companion of this bill passed that chamber in July by a wide margin, with 333 members in support.

Our nation's horses have been subjected to the horrific practice of "soring," intentionally inflicting pain and injury to a horse's legs to force them into a high-stepping gait, for too long. Your cosponsorship/support will bring us one step closer to ending this cruel practice for good.
