Stand with St. Jude Against Sickle Cell Disease

Aaliyah’s parents were so excited when they learned they were going to have a baby. But Aaliyah’s mom knew she carried the sickle cell trait. Aaliyah’s dad didn’t think he did. Unfortunately the risk was there, and Aaliyah was diagnosed with sickle cell disease at birth.

Sickle cell disease is an inherited blood disorder that causes red blood cells to become hardened and form crescent or “sickle” shapes. Sickle-shaped cells are not flexible and can stick to vessel walls, causing a blockage that slows or stops the flow of blood -- which can be terribly painful and potentially deadly.

And the expenses that come with treating a lifelong disease are costly.

This is where you come in. You can help support brave children like Aaliyah during Sickle Cell Awareness Month.

“I wish that I could adequately put into words what St. Jude has and continues to mean to me, my wife, and our family,” says Aaliyah’s dad.

Help families, like Aaliyah’s, when you sign up to support St. Jude. It’s the time of year when we reflect on the many things we’re thankful for. Give thanks for the healthy kids in your life, and show support to those who are not.

Please, add your name and show your support for children battling cancer and other life-threatening diseases.
