Yesterday night Wandsworth Tories have voted to close Siward Road nursery the Early Years and Intervention Support Service which offers specialised help for SEN.
My son attended this school when he was 2,5 years old and it was the best thing that happened to him. I was struggling to find an appropriate nursery for him at that time. I know that my son was struggling with his speech and had problems interacting with other kids despite me taking him to different playgroups. At my first appointment with the nursery they spotted that my son has a social communication and speech delay.
Despite the fact he hasn't been diagnosed then and hasn't had an EHC Plan, he has been taken care of and sent to the right place. At that time, a professional referral for my son was a life saver. As you know the EHC Plan and other diagnostics needs time to be assessed and put in place. My son's speech and social communication has improved remarkably and being in the right place, he had received the right support, care and love. Through that process he had been diagnosed as an autistic child. If he hadn't been using their services, Rayyan's life would have been completely different to the way he is now. Therefore the need for a child to be able to use these services is essential and the first step to future development instead of being placed in a wrong setting that can affect their future life and emotional wellbeing. These children need the right care and trained network to blossom.
Even though my child is no longer using this service, I am here to talk on behalf of other parents with younger child in need.
Thank you all of you for your support, that mean a lot to me and other parents who haven't been able to speak, and specially for our future generation who will need the best start in there life. closing that nursery will mean for some parents to use public transport to get that special setting, at that time of school rush public transport are busy and those poor children will have to deal with there own understanding of there emotional wellbeing which they struggle to identify or put felling or name on it plus this overcrowded and noisy place, and to don't forget that those kids struggle with changes, meeting news people every day, and going to differents places for assessment, so having all the resources and help in one place help them a lot to cope with anxiety and other fair. Let's be their voice for better future. Remember that the bestest towers in the world have been build with solid foundation, time and love and yes that can cost but the results are fantastic
