Heartland Institute, Don't Push Bad Science in Our Schools!

As if it weren't bad enough that religious fundamentalists are pushing creationism in the public school science classroom, now global warming deniers are angling for their own bad curriculum.

According to a recent column in the Huffington Post, The Heartland Institute plans to spend $100,000 on a 20 module curriculum designed to question global warming in K-12 public classrooms. The group falsely claimsthat their lead scientist has done research for the Department of Energy, notes science writer Shawn Lawrence Otto.

Sure, scientists say different things about global warming--different things about exactly what the damage will be and how soon. However, ask any three credentialed scientists about climate change and two of them will tell you it is real and it is caused by humans.

Tell the Heartland Institute not to brainwash America's school children with bad science.
We the undersigned respectfully ask that you desist in your efforts to deny global warming in America's public schools. The vast majority of scientists, worldwide, agree that global warming is real and that it is largely a result of human activity. Global warming has already been a factor in catastrophic weather events such as Hurricane Katrina. The earth is already committed to devastating results such as the submersion of island communities and loss of polar ice. Just because these results are in the future is no reason to ignore the problem. Please use your vast corporate support to promote good science which in public schools.
