Hemp for Food, Fuel, Textiles, Paper, Construction

Industrial hemp is defined to be those varieties of cannabis that have no drug value, cultivated exclusively for fiber and seed.  The purpose of this petition is to urge Congress to amend the Controlled Substances Act to exclude industrial hemp from the definition of marihuana.  Allowing hemp to be distinguished from marihuana will allow hemp to be grown domestically for food, fuel, textiles, paper, construction materials, paints, varnishes; just to name a few things that can be made from / done with hemp. Growing hemp domestically will allow farmers to have a crop with versatile properties that uses little to no herbicide and passes on pest resistance naturally to following crops.  For example, hemp can be grown on unideal plots of land reducing erosion.  Also, hemp saves trees from being cut down for paper.  Our Founding Fathers cultivated hemp!!
