Citizens Strongly Opposed to the Proposed Quarry in Bozrah, CT
- av: Lyndsay Meiklem
- mottagare: Bozrah taxpayers and citizens from surrounding towns
We, the undersigned, express our deep opposition to the application that has been submitted by Rawson Materials, on behalf of Richard Gilman, to approve plans for a stone quarry on the land that runs between Brush Hill Road and Stockhouse Rd in Bozrah, Connecticut. A project of this magnitude will have immediate and long term effects on the community of Bozrah and surrounding towns in the form of : noise pollution, air pollution, the loss of flora and fauna from the proposed parcel and bordering properties, negative effects on local wells and water supplies as well as run-off into the Yantic River, decreased property value and the loss of aesthetic integrity in the Bozrah town center.
Please oppose the application that has been submitted by Rawson Materials, on behalf of Richard Gilman, to approve plans for a stone quarry on the land that runs between Brush Hill Road and Stockhouse Rd in Bozrah, Connecticut
In the event that the Rawson application is approved, the quarry would have immediate as well as long term negative impacts for the Bozrah community and bordering towns:
- Noise Pollution: The constant noise from blasting and rock crushers would greatly affect our quiet enjoyment as business owners, residents, schools and tourists to the peaceful town of Bozrah.
- Air Pollution: The constant dust from the quarry would dissuade the public from attending local outdoor community events. Many of our school children and residents already suffer from asthma and other respiritory conditions, the constant concern of more dust and dredged up pollutants into our working environment will prevent us from having the windows open. The proximity of Fields Memorial School is an even more frightening thought as a severe decline in air quality will affect the communities children.
- Environmental Concerns: Constant blasting will have many buildings suffering from foundational cracks, loss of water well integrity and loss of local fauna that will move away from such a negative living atmosphere.
- Property Value Depreciation: Currently, the town of Bozrah is a very appealing place to live and operate a business. If the quarry is approved there is no question that , that consumer appeal will see a dramatic downturn, thus decreasing property values across the board.
- Loss of Aesthetic Integrity: Despite the inclusion of many industrial businesses along stockhouse road, the town has always ensured that the aesthetic integrity of Bozrah has remained intact through insisting new commercial property owners create visual appeal from the roadside. This can be seen most recently in the three businesses that reside directly across the entrance to the proposed quarry site on Stockhouse road. Are we willing to sacrifice the aesthetics of our town by allowing a quarry to situate itself in the center of the village of Bozrah for the next three decades?
It is clear that the potential negative impact on our community and the environment which we currently enjoy residing in could not possibly benefit from such a proposal which blatantly disregards the natural state of the earth and its creatures.
