Lunch should last for an hour or so. Not 10,000 years. It's time to stop taking out our takeout in polystyrene (styrofoam) containers. Some estimates say that polystyrene will take 10,000 years to biodegrade after it's been disposed.
To put that in perspective, that's 10,000 times longer than Conan O'Brien spent hosting the Tonight Show. Need more convincing? Here are some more facts about polystyrene: Polystyrene can leach toxic chemicals into foods and beverages! (Yeah, seriously.)
It can harm the people who manufacture it. It's one of the leading industrial causes of hazardous waste. It's non-sustainable, it can't be thrown away ('cause there is no "away" ), and even recyclers don't recycle it. It's bad for puppies. And if that's not enough it's ugly, too.
So let's say goodbye to foam!!! If you're a restaurant or vendor, please stop stocking and using polystyrene. If you're a customer, please stop accepting it, and start demanding alternatives. (Please demand politely. We're not trying to incite riots here; change is hard, so let's be understanding.)
