Maximum Sentence for Donald H. Corey for Beating Boxer Puppy in Freeland, PA in April 2011

On April 15, 2011 the Hazleton Standard Speaker of Hazleton, PA reported the incident of one Donald H. Corey brutally beating and slamming a five month old Boxer Puppy off of a vehicle on Washington Street in Freeland, PA.

The attack was so brutal that the dog reportedly went limp.

18 PA Cons. Stat 5511
Cruelty:  Fine of $50-$75 Dollars, imprisonment up to 90 days
Kill, Maim or Disfigure Domestic Animal:  Fine of not less than $500
Kill, maim, mutilate, torture or disfigure any dog or cat:  Fine of not less than $1000, imprisonment up to 2 years.

Supporters of Patrick's Law believe that these penalties are not severe enough and hope that as the prosecuting counsel you will seek the highest level of sentencing for this abhorent behavior.  Punching this dog several times was cruelty, body slamming it and continuing to punch it's head off of a vehicle was torture.

We hope that you will seek a ruling preventing this man from ever having access to a dog or cat again.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Dear District Attorney Caroll,

As concerned citizens and animal lovers, we the undersigned are contacting you in the hopes that when you prosecute one Donald H. Corey for animal cruelty, that you consider charging him at the highest level of the statute, i.e., torture.

Hitting the Boxer puppy several times was cruelty, according to the Hazleton Standard Speaker, this was not a "disciplinary" strike, but battering that was based in rage.  Slamming the puppy off of a vehicle and continuing to punch it in the head until it went limp was not just cruelty, it was torture.  That poor little puppy had no idea when the pain would stop.

According to what I could find on the internet, 18 PA Cons. Stat. 5511 has a fine of $50 to $75 for cruelty, with up to a 90 day imprisonmnet, escalating to the max of a $1000 fine and up to 2 years of imprisonment.

We the undersigned hope that you will charge this man with the highest level of the statute and pursue maximum sentencing.  Patrick's Law is seeking reform of animal abuse laws, until that happens, we do hope that prosecutors around the country examine the violent nature of these crimes more closely.

Thank you for your time.
