OSHA – Move Quickly to Issue Rules to Protect Workers From Silica Effects

Silica are tiny particles that is created during work operations involving block, brick, stone, concrete, industrial sand, mortar and rock.  Exposure to the silica can cause respirable problems through the process of grinding, cutting, drilling, sawing and crushing of any of these materials.  Products in the field of concrete, brick and pottery manufacturing operations can cause extreme contact; i.e., foundries, hydraulic fracturing, sand blasting, and within the gas and oil industries.

Workers in these various industries are put at risk for such issues as lung cancer, silicosis, kidney disease and COPD. Efforts have been implemented by OSHA with proposals that would save hundreds of lives from the exposure of silica.  You can read more about this concern with silica at https://www.osha.gov/silica/. Rules and regulations have been proposed after extensive research and scientific studies regarding health issues that result from exposure to crystalline silica, requiring protection of workers susceptible to the substance.

Our efforts in this petition is to encourage OSHA to be more diligent in passing these rules that would reduce dangerous silica exposure hazardous to humans from exposure to silica.  You can help us in our efforts by signing and sharing this petition as we try to save lives from silica exposure.

OSHA - We strongly urge you to be more diligent in passing the rule that would protect workers from exposure to silica.  Such contact with this material can lead to issues such as lung cancer, silicosis, kidney disease and COPD.  Be more adamant in passing this new new rule to protect workers in the field involving crystalline silica and save hundreds of lives.
