End Honour Killings of Iraqi LGBT People

New barbaric attacks have started against Iraqi LGBT people on February 6, 2012 and have been escalating since. Some of the victims' heads and body parts are repeatedly smashed with concrete blocks while others are thrown off high building roofs. News has confirmed that 42 gay men were tortured and killed so far.

Just as women face honour killings as a result of extra marital affairs, LGBT people are persecuted for their sexual orientation and are facing the same fate. The killing, torture, and dismemberment of people described as "adulterous" by Islamic Shia militias is terrorizing the society at large, and women and the Iraqi LGBT community in particular.

We call on all freedom-loving people of the world to sign our petition to tell the Iraqi government to stand up for the LGBT community and prosecute those who have a hand in this massacre. Let us stand with our persecuted brothers and sisters in their struggle for dignity and human rights.

We the undersigned call on you to address the atrocious killing campaign against members of the Iraqi LGBT community. You must provide protection for LGBT people, establish legislation to defend their right to life, and criminalize all aggressions against them.
We also demand a full inquiry into the groups and criminals behind the murders of these innocent people and their full punishment from the legal and correctional system.
