We now have a desperately needed solution to our current climate crises in direct-air carbon capture technology. We could stop ALL emissions worldwide immediately and STILL be in exactly the same place we are now with current climate disruption because of our legacy (previous) emissions. Our atmosphere is influenced by emissions from even 100 years ago. We have to deal with this reality to save ourselves and other species.
Environmental groups have sometimes confused direct-air capture with carbon storage technology that the oil and fracking industries use, but DAC in no way has to be tethered to any pollution source. DAC simply sucks carbon out of the air and permanently stores it, which is the answer to our current overwhelming emergency situation. There is no reason to conflate direct-air capture with any other industry greenwashing, and we must make use of it NOW to survive.
