Stop illegal backyard breeding in Fresno County

The over population of stray animals in Fresno County is a moral blemish on our community. The Central Valley has one of the highest euthanasia rates in the country. Before the Animal Compassion Team took over Fresno Humane Animal rescue, 72 percent of the animals brought in were euthanized. That's 30,000 animals in one year. 30,000 dogs and cats who, through no fault of their own, were brought into a world that simply had no room for them. That's 30,000 animals that died homeless, scared and alone. Gandhi said "The greatness of a nation can be judged by the way it's animals are treated". If that's the case the way we treat animals in Fresno is a very poor reflection of the Fresno community.

So what can you do? Help stop supporting the illegal sale of pets by backyard breeders. Pet sales and stud services are strictly prohibited on Craigslist (rehoming pets for a small fee is allowed). Per Fresno County penal code 6.1.516 it is unlawful to breed dogs or cats without registering with the supervisor on animal services. A female dog is allowed one litter of puppies per year and the puppies must be 8 weeks old at time of sale. If a Craigslist post does not meet this criteria please report it.
