Demand Laws Change to make killing a dog or cat for eating illegal in New Mexico

I need help in getting the Legislators and Governor of NM to make it a crime to kill a dog or cat for the purpose of eating it.  Just recently a man took the family pet, stabbed it with a screwdriver, and skinned it, and then attempted to feed it to the family.  It is NOT against the law to eat a domesticated animal in NM, but the laws should change.  I hope that you animal lovers out there, and anyone appalled by this will sign my petition.
