Save the Homeless and Abused Animals of Egypt

Unlike America, Cairo's animal welfare is slim to none, despite a long history of attention to animal welfare by Islamic law, modern Egypt has failed to care properly for its animal citizens. Images of dogs and cats living and dying on the streets in huge numbers, and malnourished horses and donkeys pulling excessively heavy carts confront tourists and residents every day. The Egyptian government's idea of animal control consists of poisoning and shooting homeless dogs and cats. So came about ESMA, named after the pregnant German Shephard that was shot by police three times , holding on to life for fifteen agonizing minutes, causing her unborn pups to fall to the dirty ground and die, as both children and adults just walked by paying no attention to the suffering animals. In ancient Egypt, animals were held in the highest respect as gods and deities and even mummified. Today, they are looked upon as a disposable nuisance.
