Stop the Lice/Nit infestation

1. Petition the Government and Education department to subsidize the cost of Lice/Nit treatments and products, making them affordable especially for low income earners and those in financial crisis.
2. Petition the Government and Education department to appoint and fund a Lice/Nit nurse to all Victorian schools public and private to perform daily head checks for lice/nits and to perform on the spot treatments and those treatment products to be provided by the Government, Education department and Health departments.
This is the only way to help us fight this fight against nits .
As all parents of school aged children in Vic' schools are well aware there is a Lice/Nit infestation and although this infestation is now reaching epidemic proportions we are obliged to ask the Government to help us with this issue, as currently we are being told by the schools that there hands are tied and because of this the lice/nit infestation is out of control.
We believe it should be pushed through to the health department ASAP, even though people try to assure us parents that lice/nits only like clean hair, this is very untrue the Lice are very dirty and unhealthy, Lice/Nits drop faeces on your head after eating chunks of your skin, this causes small sores to form on your scalp, neck and back leaving you itchy, irritable, sleep deprived and in some cases, causes illness from infected sores.
The main reason this has become such a severe infestation is the costs involved. A 100ml bottle of nit treatment currently retails for around $16 this will only treat 1 family member with short hair and as the average family is a family of four the total for 1 treatment for that family is a minimum of $64 and most families need treatment up to 3 times a week pushing the price up to a minimum of $192 a week, now add to this the price of treating and washing, Bed linen, Clothes and Toys etc... The costs are adding up fast.
Force the Government to help us the parents win this war on nits
The Government should take care of our future but at the moment our future's are itchy and irritable.
