ASK TVA to Replace the Shorebirds Habitat

We appreciate TVA'S proposal to develop public recreation areas near Kingston Steam Plant. The recreation areas would restore and enhance the community that was hurt by the ash spill in December 2008. However, this area was one of the top birding sites in east Tennessee for shorebirds. There is very little habitat in E.TN that is suitable for feeding large number of birds. The old ponds at Kingston Steam Plant were one of the best sites for this. Rare and/or unusual species reported at Kingston Steam Plant include Piping Plover, American Avocet, Baird's Sandpiper, Ruff, Whimbrel, Hudsonian Godwit, Marbled Godwit, Red Knot, Red-necked Phalarope, Franklin's Gull, Nelson's Sharp-tailed Sparrow, and Snow Bunting. We are asking that the shoreline habitat be replaced for the shorebirds. Thank you for your consideration.
