Demand Ichikawa Zoo provide enriched habitat for Punch and friends

LIttle monkey Punch and his friends are housed in a barren concrete pit at the Ichikawa City Zoological and Botanical Gardens (often called Ichikawa Zoo)

Japanese macaques (Macaca fuscata), usually live in the forests of Japan's Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu islands. They are the northernmost non-human primate, inhabiting diverse, cold-climate environments ranging from subtropical forests to subalpine deciduous/evergreen forests.

Punch and his friends have no trees, no greenery and no enrichment. The world was captivated by Punch's plight when he was rejected by his mother - now that we have all seen the deplorable conditions that these poor monkeys are kept in, we cannot stay silent.

We, the undersigned demand that Ichikawa Zoo provide a humane, more natural environment for these monkeys - including trees, swings and other enrichment. We cannot stay silent and watch these poor monkeys live out their lives in a cement pit.
