Government of the Balearic Islands: stop yachts destroying protected seagrass meadows

The coasts of Ibiza and Formentera are suffering a true invasion: every year more and more luxury yachts of millionaires are massively anchoring in protected areas of the sea.

These areas, which are mostly part of the Natural Park of Ses Salines, hide a natural treasure of incalculable value: large Posidonia meadows where biodiversity is high and that are responsible of ensuring the good condition of the beaches. But far from protect them adequately, the government of the islands is letting the rich vacationers devastate with their anchors this unique ecosystem.

To understand the level of overcrowding of the coast, note that in some of the most popular small coves of the island of Ibiza, like Cala d´'Hort, they have been counted up to 200 yachts on some evenings.

We must stop this massive natural destruction. To do this, there are very simple steps that could be immediately taken by the island authorities: to regulate the anchoring establishing demarcated areas, to beacon the excluded areas, and to punish those who violate the prohibitions.

Sign now this petition and help me save the ecological treasures of the Balearic Islands. With your help Posidonia meadows of the Balearic Islands will never be destroyed again.

Government of the Balearic Islands:

Save the Posidonia regulating the anchoring establishing demarcated areas, beaconing the excluded areas, and punishing those who violate the prohibitions.
