Cut Down on Rare Earth Mining!

  • av: Chris Wolverton

Rare earth mining has recently grown in popularity due to fears that China, the main supplier of rare earth elements, will cut off supplies. The United States, Brazil, Mongolia and India are currently reviving or beginning rare earth mining projects.

The process of extracting rare earth metals from rock requires toxic chemicals that pose long-term danger to the environment and human health. To curb these problems, some researchers are looking into alternatives. These include recovering rare earth materials from existing products, or manufacturing products capable of functioning without rare earths. Please sign the petition to support legislation that would curb rare earth mining in favor of green manufacturing methods.

We are concerned that the process of extracting rare earth metals from rock requires toxic chemicals that pose long-term danger to the environment and human health. To curb these problems, some researchers are looking into alternatives. These include recovering rare earth materials from existing products, or manufacturing products capable of functioning without rare earths. We respectfully urge you to create legislation that would curb rare earth mining in favor of green manufacturing methods.
