Save Vestavia Hills lost and stray animals!

We are requesting an update to the Vestavia Hills City Code Sec. 4-27. - Detention period, transfer, destruction of dogs.

We would like the detention period expanded and the animals to not be euthanized but to be distributed to a no-kill shelter or animal rescue organization if not adopted. If adopted, the animals should be spayed/neutered before adoption and given required vaccination.

The policy states that public notice of lost animals are placed on a bulletin board and website. We request that this be expanded to include the city's social media sites to have a wider audience for the awareness of these lost animals so they can be reunited with their families or found new homes.

We ask the Vestavia Hills City Council and Mayor to update this city code to be more favorable to protecting the lost pets and strays within our city.
