tougher sentences for animal cruelty

All too often we are hearing about poor animals and pets that are subjected to cruelty. There doesn't seem to be a day goes by where stories of animals been subjected not just to neglect but torture!!! And the story is then followed by: the owner/perpetrators have been banned for 5 years having pets!!! Well this isn't good enough. The horrible scum who do this to animals need to be sufficiently and rightly prosecuted. Animals are defenceless and deserve better. It's about time we did something to stop this. Tougher sentences including imprisonment with long sentences to stop this!! Not just a slap on the wrist or fine.
