Support the EPA's Important New Rules Regarding Dredging in Long Island Sound

We're passionate about protecting the Long Island Sound so that generations can enjoy the water.

The EPA is proposing important additional safeguards and other recommendations regarding dredging in Long Island Sound. The proposed amendments will help meet the goal of reducing or eliminating dredged material disposal in open waters of the Sound. The restrictions address concerns about the potential for adverse impacts of dredged material disposal on Long Island Sound water quality and fisheries habitat.

We hope that you can join us and make your voice heard in support of the proposed regulations

Dear Mr. Spalding and Ms. Enck,

We support USEPS's Proposed Rulemaking, EPA-R01-0W-2016-0068 to allow relocation of dredged materials at the Western and Central LI Sound relocation sites on an environmentally safe basis.  We support the additional safeguards that have been incorporated as recommended in the Final Long Island Sound Dredge Material Management Plan (LIS DMMP), which was released by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on January 11, 2016.

We agree that The Western and Central containment sites in LI Sound were selected for their deep water and isolation from storm impacts and have demonstrated the stability of materials placed at these sites through multiple year studies.
